Steven Herrmann is a nonprofit and higher education advancement professional who

loves turning complex systems and messy transitions into practical, people-centered

solutions. As a partner with Essence Consulting Collaborative in Chicago, he helps

mission-driven organizations strengthen their fundraising operations, implement

technology that actually works for staff, and navigate leadership and organizational

change without losing sight of equity or impact.

Over the past decade, Steven has led advancement services and fundraising systems

projects in higher education and the nonprofit sector, including CRM implementations,

analytics for major and annual giving, and staffing and workflow reviews that make day-

to-day fundraising more sustainable. He’s especially energized by collaborations where

data, staff experience, and community voice come together to support leaders serving

disinvested neighborhoods on Chicago’s South and West Sides.

Outside of work, Steven is usually working on DIY carpentry and building projects

around his house, training dogs, or planning his next backpacking trip. He’s excited to

roll up his sleeves with fellow SVP Chicago Partners, bringing a mix of systems thinking,

implementation experience, and genuine curiosity to support community-based

nonprofits and the leaders at their helm.
